Must have a good sun source, with minimal shade
Need reliable equipment
Cost savings is long term
Red tape (zoning regulations, construction permits, utility grid connection applications and interconnection)
Look at energy usage conservation first; get rid of "wall warts"
May not be able to repair or service on your own (need trained technitions and electrians)
Effort required by owner to understand the system
Need incentives. net-metering, grants or feed in tariffs (FIT)
Customer needs to self evaluate their budget for the proper system desired
